In a city dominated by Cantonese restaurants, Dong Lai Shun is a welcome alternative offering guests a superior taste of northern China. The kitchen specialises in Beijing and Huaiyang cooking and, as is to be expected, several items on the menu pack some serious heat. There are regularly changing options on the restaurant's seasonal menu but Dong Lai Shun is famous for its signature shuan yang rou, a comforting Mongolian hotpot dish of slow-braised mutton. Also recommended are the pancakes filled with meat and served with a fiery Sichuan chilli sauce. Beijing and Huaiyang dim sum is available throughout the week, and there is also a vegetarian menu.
