Tsuen Wan is predominantly famous for its street food, in particular along Tsuen Hing Path, but that doesn’t mean the neighbourhood is lacking when it comes to fine dining. Case in point, Rú. Renovated and relaunched in 2023 within Nina Hotel Tsuen Wan West, the restaurant has settled into its stride under executive Chinese chef Simon Wong. With nearly four decades of experience in kitchens at the Grand Hyatt and W Hong Kong, Wong updates Cantonese classics in slight but impressive ways. Dishes like crispy Japanese sea cucumber stuffed with minced pork and shrimp in seafood sauce, or the steamed minced pork patties with preserved vegetables, dried squid and salted egg, demonstrate a kitchen that knows its foundations but isn’t afraid to experiment.
