One of the city’s most stylish destinations for quality Cantonese cuisine, Duddell’s functions as a restaurant, bar and gallery, emphasising striking artwork and design. The latter aspect was brought to the fore following the restaurant’s renovation and revamp last summer, which drew inspiration from the 1920s Diao Lou watchtowers in Guangdong – a fusion of Western and Chinese architectural sensibilities. However, the decor doesn’t eclipse the food, which has garnered consistently high praise from the outset. The dim sum remains excellent, served alongside an array of Cantonese classics. The steamed flower crab with Chencun rice noodles and plum sauce balances gentle tartness with silky flat noodles and fresh crab, while the pigeon stuffed with braised hashima and red dates sees the boneless bird loaded with premium ingredients, all simmered to create gentle but compelling flavours.
