You wouldn’t expect to need a reservation for Takumi, considering it’s tucked away on the third floor of one of the many buildings that confusingly comprise Lee Gardens. After all, how many people are going to wander in off the street and pull up a chair? And yet, reservations are indeed a recommendation. The reason being, the drinks are among the best in town, especially for those seeking an upmarket Ginza-style experience. Rayven Leung and his team craft drinks customised to the preferred flavours of each guest. This can be a risky business, with customers unsure what to ask for or simply nervous about having to discuss their drink with a professional. But staff rarely get their bespoke creations wrong. Not for nothing is the bar named Takumi, after the Japanese word for “artisan”. Consistently excellent signatures do exist, though, for anyone who wants to look at a menu.
