Flanked by Amber and Sushi Shikon, two of Hong Kong’s most outstanding restaurants, Somm has had to wait patiently to emerge from the sizeable shadows cast by its neighbours. The Landmark’s decision to push its F&B concepts strongly in the post-Covid era has undoubtedly helped Somm gain due recognition. Styled as a neo-Parisian bistro – a “casual” one at that, or as casual as anywhere in the Landmark MO can be – the menu offers a parade of appealing dishes. The likes of the Boston lobster with celeriac and Granny Smith apples, and the dry-aged Challans duck breast with sansho, beetroot with shiso, cherry and maury reduction are executed to enviable standards. Naturally, for a restaurant named after the word sommelier, wine is of great importance here, with 1,600 types of wines and more than 100 by-the-glass options available. Plenty of pairings are available and the resident sommeliers are eager to assist.
